Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have a waitlist?

Yes, currently I am booking portraits 3-6 months out.

What age do you recommend having a formal pastel portrait done?

I like at least 3 years old for a pastel portrait, but it’s really client preference. I have some clients who love 18-24 months and others who prefer elementary school.

Do you work primarily from photos or do you require formal sittings?

Kids have a lot of wiggles! Which is why I like to work from 1-2 quality reference photos.

What kind of expressions do you recommend?

A good reference photo (and a few additional photos for supporting information like skin tone, and hair color) is important. I look for eyes that are nice and bright and open in a reference photo. Think soft smiles!

I recommend parents cull 8-10 of their favorite photos, and then I will make recommendations based on what you send me.

What is your favorite medium to work in?

Right now, I’m loving both graphite and pastel.

Graphite has this beautiful, vintage look about it that makes it feel like an heirloom, especially in the right frame.

Pastels produce colors with a warmth that just feels really specific to children. It’s vibrant and soft at the same time, and timeless.

How much should I budget for framing?

Custom framing is highly recommended for graphite and pastel.

I recommend clients budget $300-$400 per individual portrait. I am always happy to meet you at a local frame shop or help with framing recommendations.

Can I ask for adjustments on my child’s portrait?

Yes. For graphite, I allow for one round of adjustments and for pastel, I allow for two rounds. Any further adjustments are an additional $100 per round.

Do you offer pet portraits?

Just people, no pets.

Are you still taking commissions of residential properties?

No, but I do continue to sell my university prints here in my shop, which make for great graduation presents.

Do you take orders from clients outside the US?

At this time, I ship and receive orders from clients within the US only.

If I’m interested in commissioning a portrait, what’s the best way to get started?

Fill out the contact form on my website, and I will email you back to discuss the total commission cost and my calendar availability.
